Christmas is a time of getting together and celebrating a joyous occasion. While many hotels and restaurants are geared up with their best menu and festive décor to mark the occasion, a few decide to give back to the community by doing a bit of charity. One World Hotel is one of them.
The hotel recently held a Christmas Light Up ceremony and launched a Grant-A-Wish programme to fulfill the Christmas wish of 30 children from House of Joy. All wishes have been granted by the hotel staff themselves.
This Christmas, Cinnamon Coffee House has prepared a festive buffet spread comprising regular favourites, roast turkey, roast lamb and an assortment of Christmas-y desserts. Of the items I sampled, the roast beef with black pepper sauce was fairly decent – it was tender enough with a pink centre. The chicken satay was not bad for hotel standard, but the beef version was more chewy than I liked it to be.
My plate of sashimi was alright (although I wished the sushi chef gave me more fish) and the Salmon roll was made the way I liked it to be; less rice, extra salmon and double the roe. I had both the squid ink pasta cooked in carbonara sauce and the spaghetti Bolognese. The latter tasted better. I thought the carbonara sauce was a tad under seasoned.
The kids kept me occupied (not that I’m complaining), so I didn’t quite sample enough of the spread. I did however, tuck into three bowls of tom yam soup. It was spicy, sour and thick. The only thing missing is a steamboat pot…
It wouldn’t be fair for me to grade the buffet spread based on what I ate that night, so it’s best you sample it and decide if it’s good. But I can tell you this – the food selection is ample (salads, DIY salads, assorted breads, Christmas goodies, assorted cheese, cold platter, canapé style salads and starters, seafood station, soup of the day, pizza, live pasta station, dim sum, Hainanese chicken rice, satay corner, rojak stall, Shawarma, Indian counter, tandoori, fresh tempura, teppanyaki of the day, sushi & sashimi counter, entrée, dessert ala minute, cakes, ice cream and the list goes on…).
All these for RM108++ per person with one complimentary glass of wine. The buffet is priced at RM55++ for kids between age 4-12 and comes with a glass of mocktail.
Thank you Florence and May, for the kind invitation. I had a wonderful time!
