Home Food Reviews G3 Kitchen & Bar @ Bangsar Baru

Whenever I receive random text messages from DF, either I messed up on an article or there’s something he wants to share with me. Recently, it was the latter. “Try the anchovy and goat cheese pizza at G3”, he said. When he makes an effort to text me such things, chances are, the food should be good.

Shum and I tested that theory slightly over a week ago, when both of us were looking for a place to catch up in Bangsar. When we were there, the place was relatively quiet. I tend to feel uneasy when a place isn’t patronized, as that’s a possible indication that the food might not be good.

However, the anchovy and goat cheese pizza (RM27) proved me wrong. This was an interesting, albeit strange combination of savoury anchovy, pungent goat’s cheese and tart tomato slices. The pizza crust was adequately thin and crispy, which held the gooey toppings beautifully.

I thought the eggplant parmigiana was a bit of a rip-off. For RM16, I got one miserable slice of eggplant with cheese, and a side of fries and salad. While the eggplant tasted alright, it was nothing to shout about. The fries were thick and chunky, but I would have preferred them slightly more done.

Besides the pizza, DF also recommended the fig and walnut tart (RM8). I found this a tad too sweet for my liking, but the crust was buttery and light. Shum and I were never a fan of figs, so this didn’t wow us.

My latte (RM9) was not very good. It lacked body and had a faint hint of coffee. The glass I got was slightly over half-filled; they should have filled it all the way or just serve the coffee in a smaller glass. If you’re a beer-head like Shum, you can order their beers. They also have an extensive selection of wines on display.

On a whole, the food was decent and service was friendly. I wouldn’t mind coming back for more pizza and to try more of the desserts available. But I’ll be skipping the coffee.

Ambiance: 6/10
Price: 5/10
Food: 6/10 (pork-free)
Verdict: The pizza was not bad, but I wasn’t pleased with the coffee I ordered.

gosh, i haven't had eggplant parmigiana in years! it's one of those recipes that we see on a menu from time to time, but we always end up ordering other stuff that seem a bit more tempting :D

Michelle – I know! I felt so ripped off that day…

Sean – You can easily make your own eggplant parmigiana at home. Order their other dishes. ;)
