Home Food Reviews Yu Ai Seafood Noodles @ Segambut

The seafood noodles at Yu Ai is expensive and (slightly) overrated, I think. Paying more than RM5 for a bowl of curry noodles at a coffeeshop already gets me complaining. And at Yu Ai, we’re talking about RM15 for a small bowl, and RM17 for a large bowl. For those who have not heard about this establishment, Yu Ai has been selling seafood noodles for more than a decade. It’s been more than a year since I last visited the place, and it looked like nothing much have changed. I still felt as though I was eating in a hot oven. I quickly ordered an iced soya bean drink to cool down. When my drink arrived, I regretted my choice. It was bland and diluted, like rif’s chrysanthemum tea. We should have gone for canned drinks instead. You have a choice of clear, curry or tom yam soup to go with your noodles – yellow mee, vermicelli and kuay teow. I ordered the curry broth with kuay teow, and everything (cuttlefish, clams, oysters, fish slices and prawns), but you can choose which seafood you want or don’t want. I ordered a large bowl, and the auntie tried persuading me to be less ambitious. “Don’t worry auntie, I can finish it”, I giggled. For most people, a small bowl would suffice.

Piping hot bowls of noodles, ready to be served.

The curry broth was creamy, spicy and flavourful, from the seafood and possibly with some MSG. I helped myself to plenty of fiery sambal paste to add more kick to my noodles.

Sambal paste

The seafood was fairly fresh, but I found that the portion has decreased. Or it could be that I’m greedy. If there were any fishiness at all, the curry broth masked it nicely.Despite the heat and stuffiness, I slurped my bowl clean. 1) Because the curry broth was seriously addictive. 2) Because my bowl of noodles cost RM17! If you’re keen on trying the noodles, be prepared to fork out at least RM15 and another RM1.50 for your drink (unless of course you want to bring your own water).

Ambiance: 3/10
Price: 4/10
Food: 6.5/10
Verdict: Pretty decent, but it’s still a lot of money to part for a bowl of noodles in a coffeeshop.

Even though this place is quite near my place, I've only been here once. I found that I am very thirsty after eating the curry mee here. And the expensive price is not helping.

I drove by the other day and it shot to the top of my next-to-eat list! Will note the temperature and dress appropriately!

Farainie – I don't recall them serving pork. But the outlet in SS2 is pork free. I saw a few Muslims eating there when I last went.

You can call the contact number below my post and check. =)

Min – Yes, shorts and tshirt is best! ;)

Simon – Yeah…I suspect they use MSG. That's why the noodles taste good. >.<

it is one of my occasional treats, the seafood's good but still it is a bit over priced.

then again someone has to pay for the owner's lotus elise and his private parking spot at genting

This place totally overpriced! Even the big bowl cannot feed me up, the serving getting smaller but the price went up higher =.="
