Home Food Reviews Hometown Hainan Coffee @ Kota Damansara

Just when we thought we’ve seen enough of kopitiams mushrooming around the city, rif and I spotted Hometown Hainan Coffee when we were in Kota Damansara recently. There were quite a few patrons in the shop, so we decided to check the place out. The decor was cosy, with a mini lounge with magazines and computers for surfing purposes. We got ourselves a table at a secluded corner, or so we thought. Turned out, the table next to us made so much noise, it was annoying.

“My manager aaah….so dumb! She doesn’t know how to do the P.O.S one. Don’t know how she can become manager!” said lady A.

“My boss even worse lah…work there so long also don’t know how to use the photocopy machine,” added lady B.

Then it went on and on and on — the debate on whose boss was dumber. And they were loud. Like the “no-need-to-use-microphone-also-the-next-shop-can-hear” loud.
Back to the topic. The Hainan tea (RM3.90) and Hainan coffee (RM3.90) was decent. Between the two, I’d say the Hainan coffee tasted better. It was more ‘kau’. Curry Noodles (RM8.90) were better than the ones from the other two big kopitiams I used to patronise. The soup was thicker, spicier and more aromatic. They were pretty generous with the raw cockles, which added more flavour to the soup. rif ordered the Kaya Butter Egg Toast (RM5.90), which turned out to be the tastiest item that night. This was similar to the French toast, but with a layer of kaya in the middle. Crispy at the sides, eggy and buttery with a generous spread of pandan kaya. I liked this!
The crispy kaya butter bread (RM3.80) was dry — the texture was almost biscuit-like. I wouldn’t bother ordering this again. Service was quite good, despite the almost full house. I wanted my curry noodles piping hot, but it came just warm. The staff kindly agreed to reheat it for me, and added more curry soup too. I hope they keep this service up, as it was more pleasant than the service I usually receive at Pappa Rich or Ipoh Old Town.
Ambiance: 6/10
Price: 5/10
Food: 5.5/10 (halal)
Verdict: Decent hangout place, average pricing.

OK la.. since you didn't condemn this place, I'd give it a try. Actually I was sceptical whether to patronise or not coz there aren't many people in the morning everytime I go to Kota Damansara

Thick curry and cockles the main attraction for me. This must be good.

Babe, i just dont understand why do all the Kopitiams have to have the word "Town" or "Coffee" in them? lack of originality and also if they wanna trademark their name put susah coz the registry will probably ask them to disclaim the words.. *huge sigh!*

anyways, im grumpy coz everytime i read your blog i get hungry and i only have maggie mee at home -.-
