Home Food Reviews Simple pleasures of life @ Meng Fang, Kuantan

Rain rain rain rain. Don’t you just hate it when you step into big puddles of water? I know I ruined two of my favourite shoes during this monsoon season. The rain is much worst in Kuantan. The weather there is dreadful — wet, cold and foggy with water puddles everywhere. I was so tempted to buy a pair of Phua Chu Kang boots!

During such rainy days, I often crave a simple kaya toast with a hot cup of coffee, and I got what I wanted at Meng Fang.
This simple coconut jam had a thick, grainy texture, and was fragrant and nicely caramelised. Between a bun and a slice of toast, I had the former. Freshly out of the toaster, the buns (RM1.50 for 2) were crisp on the outside and puffy on the inside. I had a cup of old style kopi (RM1), with a generous amount of condensed milk. Strong, aromatic and smooth till the last drop. Beats the overpriced and overhyped coffee from a famous local coffee chain I know.
Ambiance: 4/10
Price: 8/10
Food: 6/10
Verdict: Simple, yet satisfying.

I can totally relate! It's just nice to be eating kaya toast (we call it roti kahwin over in Sarawak) with a cup of coffee on a rainy day…especially weekends! :)
