Buffet Lunch @ Fu-Rin, Holiday Inn Subang

rif’s parents invited me for a lunch buffet at Fu-Rin, Holiday Inn Subang last Sunday. The buffet starts at 12 noon till 2.30pm. The deco consisted of dark wooden floors, pebbled paths and dimly lit surroundings. There are also tatami rooms and private dining rooms for bigger groups. The buffet consists of a sushi bar, Teppanyaki counter, soup and noodles, tempura and desserts. I started with the sushi bar – taking a selection of sushis, sashimi and gyoza. The salmon was good. Thickly cut, it was fresh and melts in the mouth with a lovely buttery aftertaste.I also enjoyed the Temaki/hand roll (forgot to snap a picture). Salmon, crabstick, cucumber, rice and ebiko wrapped with a crispy sheet of seaweed and topped with a generous dollop of mayonnaise. Yum! The gyoza wasn’t great, but I love any sort of dumpling so I didn’t mind it. My only gripe was that it has been sitting on the counter for too long hence it was cold. :( The chicken teppanyaki was pretty good. Juicy, chunky and well-seasoned, I couldn’t find fault with it. The beef, while tasty didn’t measure up to the chicken. And though the prawns were sweet and fresh, I didn’t care much for them. rif didn’t like the vegetable teppanyaki. He found it too salty.I really enjoyed the prawn and brinjal tempura. The prawns were juicy and the batter was light. I found the brinjal tender and fleshy. Good stuff! On the other hand, the chawanmushi was extremely salty.I didn’t try the grilled salmon head but rif’s mum who did said it was not bad. They didn’t have any mochi for desserts so I had ice cream. They only had green tea, vanilla and corn flavour that day. I was slightly disappointed as I wanted to try their black sesame ice cream. :( The green tea ice cream was smooth and creamy. I reckon it tasted better than Rakuzen’s version. The vanilla was well, vanilla ice cream. The buffet cost RM48++ per head and the ocha cost RM2 per head. While the pricing is reasonable and the food is of decent quality, we found the selection somewhat limited.

Ambiance: 8/10
Price: 6.5/10
Food: 7/10
Verdict: Though there were a few misses, Fu-Rin serves pretty good food but lack variety.

It’s reasonable, but too far la. I haven’t tried Shogun recently. I used to like going there 2-3 years back, but the QC was bad plus they kept raising their prices so I haven’t gone back since.

I guess you’re right. Quality does matter more than quantity. :)
