Home Food Reviews Yuen Buffet Steamboat

A not so satisfactory experience at Tasty Pot made me crave for better steamboat so I bugged rif to take me to Yuen Buffet Steamboat last Saturday. We got there at 9pm (didn’t want to queue up so long) only to find that we still had to wait for 30 minutes for a seat. 0_0I was already very hungry at that time…seeing that it’s already 9pm! NOTE: Don’t go there without reservation on a weekend.Once seated, we asked for both the tomyam and clear soup before making a beeline for the food. They have a wide selection of items. Plenty of prawns, crabs, squid, lala, bamboo lala and the usual fish balls, beef balls, sotong balls, tofu…etc..I also liked that they were not stingy, food is constantly topped up and service is quite good….for a full house. The tom yam soup was my favourite (yeah…I know got a lot of MSG). Spicy and sour, it is even tastier once we added all the ingredients.I had loads of bamboo lala as I’ve been craving for it the whole week. Other than seafood, they have chicken, fish, beef, innards, mushrooms, vegetables, eggs and different types of noodles to cook in the soup. I think it’s a pork-free restaurant as I spotted quite a few Malays eating there. They also have fried rice, mihun, chicken rendang and their famous honey chicken wings. The chicken wings is coated in sticky black sauce and caramelised with honey. Very delicious. People would rush over and empty the whole tray! rif was in charge of taking the wings as he’s bigger and stronger. I get pushed aside very often. 0_0They have many ice cream flavours to choose from. While I love eating them all, my favourites are honeydew, yam and mango. Oh, and I find their coffee flavoured agar-agar extremely addictive. rif thinks it’s disgusting! :P

The bill cost RM 43.90 inclusive of 2 Chinese tea and 5% tax. They open from 5.30pm to 12midnight. If you plan to go on a weekend, it’s advisable to BOOK IN ADVANCE or risk waiting. I’ve waited for more than 1 hour before!

Ambiance: 5/10
Price: 8/10
Food: 7/10
Verdict: The ideal place for affordable steamboat buffet. Note that they are NOT STINGY and food is always aplenty.

actually the place is over rated. i didn't like the heat and dirty looking environment. so it wouldn't be a place that i'll go for entertaining.
