Home Travel Vienna, Part 2

Since we were planning to go to Prague, we stopped by Vienna again for transit. This time, we decided to stay for a night. After checking into a hostel, we went around exploring what we didn’t get to see when we were here on transit to Budapest. We took the tram to Stephenplatz to the same Wurstelstand we went to the last time. rif wanted to try something different so he got a Debreziner (a thin, spicy, peppery sausage). I tried the Schweinefleischsemmel (pork patty with bread roll). We shared a serving of Pommes mit currysauce. This time, I asked for more sauce. :P

Pommes mit currysauce (€ 1.30)

Debreziner roll (€ 3.25)

Schweinefleischsemmel (€ 2.85)

After our late lunch, we went to Schönbrunn Palace (Schloss Schönbrunn), one of the most beautiful places in Vienna. Schönbrunn is derived from the “Schönner Brunnen” or “Lovely Fountain”, the thermal spring that is now within the palace ground and has more than 1400 rooms.

Parliament

The Parliament building was constructed between and 1883 and 1918. Its design is a mix of neo-Renaissance and classical Greek architecture. The fountain statue at the front of the building represents Pallas Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. The Belvedere Palace stood beautifully and magnificently in a great setting. We enjoyed the beautiful sceneries of Vienna when walking through the palace garden.

Museum of Fine Arts

The Museum of Fine Arts was built in 1891 near the Imperial Palace to house the extensive collections of the imperial family. With its vast collection of well-known works and the largest Bruegel collection in the world, it is one of the most popular museums in the world.

MuseumsQuartier (MQ)

The MuseumsQuartier (MQ) is one of the ten largest cultural quarters in the world. It combines institutions of different art fields, restaurants, cafés and shops in an area of over 640,000 square feet in a post-modern ambiance, a combination of baroque buildings and modern architecture. We didn’t enter the museum as we were only there for a while.

Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna Opera House) at night

We had our dinner at Mozart Stùbel nearby our accommodation. I had the famous Wiener Schnitzel (€ 9.50) while rif had the Gemischte Grillplatte/mixed grill (€ 12).

Dim interior

My schnitzel tasted as delicious as it looked. Served piping hot, the crispy breadcrumb coating revealed a thin piece of tender pork chop. Although the schnitzel was thin, it was quite a big serving. I enjoyed the fries that came with my schnitzel. Even more so with some mayonnaise on the side. :)rif’s mixed grill of chicken, beef and pork was quite good. Of the trio, I enjoyed the chicken the most. I’m amazed at how they managed to get the chicken breast to taste so tender and juicy. The beef was not bad although not as delicious as the chicken while the pork was slightly on the tough side. rif too, enjoyed his fries with mayonnaise. Mayonnaise from European countries taste much much better than the mayo back in KL.

We were well-fed and happy :)

Mozart Stùbel

After dinner, we were quite tired so we decided to call it a night. I couldn’t sleep well because there was this European guy who snored like crazy the whole night. I really wanted to stuff a sock in his mouth. Hmmphh…if only I had the guts….hehehe. We took the 9 a.m. train to Prague the next morning. Of all the places I’ve been to, I still like Vienna best! I would like to come back again one day….BUT I’ll be sure to get my own personal room the next time!

Yes i agree!! Vienna is a nice city, its a must-stop city if you are traveling by train for west to east or likewise. Don’t spend more then 2 days in this city, its not very big, I would say the size of Bangsar.

Yes the mayo in Europe all tasted good, but i could tell that it was full of fat and it was going straight to my “spare tire”.hehe…

You also forgot to tell that the European guy was not only snoring but was also really smelly!!
